One of the reasons I don't like visiting museums is because I don't know the "back story" or the details to remember and observe the art pieces - often they all look the same to me. With Florence it's different, there is so much history in one city that you cannot avoid hearing about it.

If you have ever seen any of the images, it's because Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance - the culture movement that started in the 14th century and lasted until the 17th.
It's impossible to speak about Florence or the Renaissance, without hearing about the Medici family. If you ever been to Florence or are going to visit you may spot the Medici family coat of arms almost everywhere.
