His grandson Lorenzo de Medici, also known as Lorenzo the Magnificent (above), is best known for his contribution to the art world, giving large amounts of money to artists so they could create master works of art.
Some of the important Renaissance artists he supported were: , Sandro Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo Buonarrotti who even lived with him and his family for 5 years. And this is why Florence became the birthplace of the Renaissance.
