This movie instead shows the real side of modern life and love, the loneliness, the faded romance of a long relationship.
Bill Murray as Bob and Scarlett Johansson as Charlotte meet in the movie and develop a strong bond despite their age difference. Most of us had that kind of special bond, at one point in life, with a person that in another context or place would never had become even a friend. I remember studying in Bologna (Italy) and being in class with people I had completely nothing in common with, except for one person. She was almost 10 years older than me, but since I was born in Germany and she was German we had a common language in common. We ended up spending each moment together and developed a strong bond. Today we barely speak, and I highly doubt we would have been friends if we had met in a different place or time. But at that point in my life she was the most important person, we helped each other to overcome many challenges that come along when you are far from your family, friends and comfort zone. I realized how much she helped me and meant to me, once she had left for the second semester and I was left alone in that same city. Watching the movie made me remember that time after she left and how lonely I felt in a city which just days before felt so right.
